Started in 2015, the Battle of the Kings (BOTK) custom build competition is the largest dealer custom bike build competition in the world. Competitors from around the world have submitted over 500 custom builds. For the 2019 BOTK, Harley-Davidson is excited to partner with local trade schools to be part of the build at United States based dealerships. Harley-Davidson’s 10-year goal is to build 2 million new riders, but those new riders will need service technicians and customization experts to help them along the way. Through programs like BOTK, H-D will build the next generation of those skilled tradesmen and inspire students to get involved in the exciting world of H-D customization. BOTK offers future mechanics exposure to creativity, customization prowess and technical precision. After dealers complete their builds, voting will be opened to the public April 15th  to select The People’s Choice winners. All dealer entries will go head-to-head on H-D.com where customers will have the chance to vote for their favorite motorcycle. In Late April, the winners will be announced on H-D.com. After The People’s Choice winners are announced, one U.S. Champion will be crowned at the Harley-Davidson Annual Dealers Meeting in August. After the U.S. Champion is crowned the winner at 2019 ADM, they will go on to compete against the top international bikes for the chance of becoming the Global Battle of the Kings Champion. Not only does the winner receive international bragging rights for building the top custom bike, but the dealership team receives an all-expenses paid trip to EICMA (Milan Motorcycle Show) where their bike will be on display for the world to see. Rock City Harley-Davidson partnered with Pulaski Technical College for the 2019 entry, the Alka Hauler.

THE ALKA HAULER | Battle Of The Kings 2019 Submission Photos
Charred oak whiskey barrel sidecar sitting on a serial stamped 1939 sidecar frame found in a junkyard. Custom frame hardware was fabricated for the sidecar mount along with adjustable camber suspension. The exhaust runs all through under the sidecar with a flex pipe for movement and quick detachable for sidecar removal. H-D Sportster rim and knobby tire finishes off the sidecar frame. The footstep is part of the original 1939 frame, left in place.

Brushed aluminum feel with the H-D Brass collection give the Alka Hauler an old school feel. The raised and chopped front fender along with the chopped rear fender hug the Sporter rims and knobby tires. Custom suicide shift is clearly visible and ready to throw you through the gears.

H-D Brass Collection with heat treated bare metal paint. The Alka Hauler.

Chopped and raised fron fender for knobby tire mud clearance. Custom headlight shroud was fabricated to hold two PIAA headlights.

Custom suicide shift created from Road Glide handlebar. Copper braided lines and Harley-Davidson Brass Collection grip.

Custom twead and leather whiskey barrel sidecar interior, matching the FatBob seat. Note the charred oak interior. The rear "Shine Tray" is custom built from old pallets laying around the shop.

Custom sidecar suspension and adjustable camber linkage were fabricated to smooth the ride of the Alka Hauler. The exhaust runs all the way across with quick detach and flex pipe. The rear "Shine Crate" was built from old pallets laying around the shop. Rear fender was chopped and the antique license plate is 100% legit.

The custom exhaust quick detach is visible along with the camber suspension adjuster on the sidecar frame.

Bare metal heat treated antique paint on all tins. Each was taken down to the bare metal structure and then heated/cooled repeatedly to create this effect. The H-D logo is actually burned into the metal.

Mounted to an actual serial number stamped 1939 sidecar frame, the whiskey barrel is from a local distillery. Taken right out of the barrel stack and given to us for the build. The Alka Hauler name is hand burned into the front of the barrel.
